Description

Microfoam consists of an extensible, primarily closed cell foam,coated with a layer of an acrylic adhesive.The tape is highly conformable and adapts easily to body movements.Although permeable to oxygen and moisture vapour, the tape provides abarrier to liquids and bacteria.

Microfoam is radio-transparent, and may be sterilised by ethyleneoxide. It is suggested that, if sterile tape is required, strips are removedfrom the roll and laid over a suitable carrier for introduction intothe chamber of the ethylene oxide steriliser.It is important to ensure that any tape so sterilised is adequatelyaerated before use.Sterilisation of intact rolls of tape is not recommended.

Indications

The conformable nature of Microfoam makes it useful for application toirregular or contoured sites such as knees, ankles elbows etc.Because of the extensible nature of the foam, the tape may also be used to provide light pressure as part of a compression dressing system.As Microfoam is coated with an acrylic adhesive, it maygenerally be used on patients who have exhibited an adverse reactionto adhesives containing rubber or resin.

Contra-indications

Although there are no absolute contra-indications to the use ofMicrofoam, it should (like most tapes) be used with cautionon patients who have very fragile skin, such as those on long-termsteroid therapy. Third grade poem.

Warnings

It should not be necessary to use skin tackifiers, such as tincture ofbenzoin, with Microfoam.Although the tape is extensible, care should be takento ensure that it is not applied under tension unless specifically required.
